While bringing us materials, a customer often knows for which purposes the translation will be used. Our customers often just wish to understand the text and the translated materials are meant for one-time reading. In such case we are dealing with informative translation.
Informative translation presents the information on the level requested by the customer in order to understand its meaning. In this case the translation might not be syntactically perfect but is grammatically and orthographically correct and carries the meaning of the original material.
The most common kind of translation is so-called regular translation - a translation is grammatically, orthographically and semantically correct and clearly understood. Such translation is used in communication where we do not use an extensive amount of specific vocabulary.
Specialized translation – specific texts (e.g. technical texts, user manuals, specific training materials, etc.) in case of which the use of certain and precise terminology is needed. Specialized translation requires proofreading/editing by a specialist or a terminologist and further control of numbers, names, formulas, etc. presented in a text.
Quality translation – translation where no mistakes are allowed and in case of which the language use must be perfect (e.g. printed materials, Internet web pages, advertising materials, etc.). The materials needing quality translation must be both proofread and technically edited.
Thus the prior knowledge of the customers assists the work of a translation bureau. The translations with better quality may need more time, but we must keep in mind that we cannot trade quantity for quality.
